Rwanda is a country that is located within Eastern and Central Africa. Rwanda is a landlocked country that is bordered by the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Uganda, and Tanzania. Rwanda is 26 337 square kilometres with a population of 13, 21 million people.
Rwanda is known for its breath-taking scenery; it is often referred to as le pays des mille collines (French: “land of a thousand hills”). The capital city of Rwanda is Kigali. The Rwandan Franc is an official national currency and used only in Rwanda.
The principal language is Kinyarwanda which is spoken by the majority of Rwandans. English and French are official languages. Swahili is also spoken in cities.
Rwanda’s relatively high altitude allows for its tropical highland climate despite its plenty of rain. Rwanda’s long rainy season lasts from about March to May when the rain is heavy and persistent. June to mid-September is the long dry season; and October to November is a shorter rainy season, followed by a short dry season from December to February.
