Ethiopia is in the Horn of Africa, in the eastern region of Africa. It is bordered by Sudan, Somalia, and Kenya. Known for being the origin of coffee, its beautiful waterfalls and high mountains, Ethiopia is the perfect destination location for expats.

Ethiopia has a population of 118 million people. The official language is Amharic and the official currency is the Ethopian Birr.

Ethiopia is described as an ecologically diverse country, from hot weather to a cool climate. Kiremt (Summer) is from June until August. Belg (Autumn) is from September to November. Bega (Winter) runs from December until February and Tseday (Spring) run from March until May.

Ethiopia is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic country. Religion is a major influence in Ethiopian life. Nearly half the population belongs to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church but there is also a large Muslim population.

Immigration to Ethiopia

Business Visa

The Ethiopian Business Visa allows foreign nationals to travel to visitors to travel to Ethiopia for business purposes. This visa is valid for up to 30 days. Travelers must have their passport with at least 6-months validity from the date of arrival to Ethiopia.

Work Permit

If a foreign nation would like to move to Ethiopia fore than 90 days, they have to apply for a Residence Permit. The work permit is issued by the Ministry of Labour.  A work permit is given for a foreign employee in a specific type of work for three years and must be renewed every year.

Residence Permit

Once a foreign national acquires a work permit from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs Office, they can request for a residence permit from Ethiopian Immigration authority.
