Cape Town – Cape Town Air Access was officially launched this week.
According to the Western Cape’s official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency Wesgro, the launch will establish Cape Town Air Access as the focal point for international air route development in the Western Cape.
This is because air access is regarded as an important aspect of investment growth in the Western Cape.
It involves the collaboration between the Western Cape provincial government, the City of Cape Town, Airports Company South Africa (Acsa), Cape Town Tourism, Wesgro and the private sector.
The primary mandate of the air access team is to promote, develop and maintain air routes into and out of Cape Town International Airport. Ensuring the success of existing routes, increasing frequencies and capacity, and the establishment of new routes form part of the mandate. The team will also facilitate the establishment and initial feasibility study of potential new routes.

What Xenophobia And Terrorism Perceptions Cost African Tourism
Asoro is marketing and sales director at the Calabar International Convention Centre in Nigeria. Different country.
Tourism and other business suffers in Africa when tragic events that happen in a single mall, market or region of the continent are wrongly attributed to the entire continent.
Xenophobic attacks, acts of terror and outbreaks of disease are the main perception issues that are snatching opportunities from African businesses and tourism organisations, according to the Meetings Africa conference Wednesday, IOL reported.
While tourism was recovering from the Ebola scare in Africa and xenophobic attacks in South Africa, new visa laws ensured that South Africa did not benefit from the fast-depreciating rand, Moneyweb reported.
The South African government has since backed down on some of the more stringent visa measures. Cullinan Holdings, a South African company with diverse interests, is heavily invested in tourism. The company shared its experiences in 2015.
Cullinan’s marine and financial services divisions recorded excellent growth but the tourism division, which contributes the bulk of group income, dragged down the overall performance. Marine and financial services segments increased 30 percent to $4 million US and 86 percent to $7.8 million respectively. Tourism revenue dropped 10 percent to $47.4 million, Moneyweb reported.
Reputation is the cornerstone of tourism and South Africa’s has been badly damaged, according to Moneyweb. Unfriendly visa regulations are being reversed but it is difficult to tell the extent of damage that they caused at this point. However, South Africa’s world class tourism infrastructure may help the recovery.

GE expansion will include aviation in Ethiopia, oil and gas in Mozambique, and rail and healthcare in both, GE Africa President President Jay Ireland said Wednesday at the Bloomberg Africa Business and Economic Summit in Cape Town.
“We’re very optimistic about Ethiopia. We’re also optimistic about Mozambique, and expanding our footprint in both of those countries,” Ireland said.

Stripe Wants To Make It Easier For African Entrepreneurs To Set Up In The US
Stripe is the payment processing system which powers Apple Pay as well as the payment systems of Twitter and Facebook and hundreds of startups in 24 countries where the company operates.
According to The New York Times, Stripe’s new entity named Stripe Atlas will help foreign entrepreneurs from Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and parts of Asia, incorporate their companies in Delaware and get bank accounts in the US that will help them accept payment globally.
“A majority of the growth over the next 10 years will come from these underserved markets,” Patrick Collison, co-founder and chief executive of Stripe, told The New York Times last week.
“That includes about 6.2 billion people we don’t reach yet, and that’s a huge missed opportunity if we didn’t try to do so.”
The US has one of the best banking infrastructure and in some cases acts as a tax haven for foreign companies.
