Cape Town to connect fibre to all CBD buildings

Cape Town – The City of Cape Town is rolling out fibre broadband access to all buildings in the central business district (CBD) as part of its investment into a municipal broadband network project.cape-town

The city announced on Tuesday that it had connected an additional 49 private buildings to high-speed fibre broadband. This is in addition to 290 government buildings already connected to high-speed fibre broadband in the city.

“It is part of the metro-wide R1.7bn roll-out of the municipal broadband network,” Carola Koblitz, communications manager for the Central City Improvement District (CCID) told Fin24 about the project.

“We’ve not been given the costs to the city of each individual building roll-out,” Koblitz told Fin24.

Creating a positive culture means reinforcing the right actions

937ad0908e103306a2814db3d0ff794fDive Brief:
Much is written about improving workplace culture, but according to an expert writing at Talent Management, company cultures are often created by chance, where things happen both “intentionally and unintentionally.”
While slogans typically are part of a cultural change effort, used alone they can’t define or create a positive culture, writes Aubrey Daniels, an expert on management, leadership and workplace. Most employers say the right things, but find trouble when trying to turn words into actions, he explains.
One negative result of saying one thing but doing another: regarding culture is employee confusion. Trust is key, and confusion stymies that.

Africa: Investors Retain Confidence in Hospitality Industry

Johannesburg — THE number of planned hotel rooms in Africa has soared to 64 000 in 365 hotels, up almost 30 percent on the previous year.african-hotels-adventures-13492723730

This is according to new figures from the annual W Hospitality Group Hotel Chain Development Pipeline Survey.

The increase is largely down to strong growth in sub-Saharan Africa, which is up 42, 1 percent on 2015 and is significantly outstripping North Africa which achieved only a modest 7,5 percent pipeline increase this year.

A major shake-up in the rankings by country saw Angola, never before listed among the top 10, push Egypt out of second place, due to a major deal there signed by Accor Hotels.

Nigeria remains the country with the most rooms in the pipeline, up 20 percent on 2015. It has over 10 200 rooms.

Together with Angola, the two countries account for 17 782 rooms between them, almost 30 percent of the total pipeline and 40 percent of the signed rooms in sub-Saharan Africa.

The 2016 survey provides a full picture of hotel development across the continent – 36 hotel chains and 86 brands with more than 64 000 rooms in 365 hotels.
